Frequently Asked Questions

LIP BLUSH TATTOOING

What is lip blush tattooing?

Lip blush is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo that enhances the natural color, shape, and definition of the lips. It uses a traditional tattoo machine and needle cartridge to deposit pigment into the lips for a soft, natural-looking tint.

How long does it last?

Results typically last 2–3 years slowly fading over time, depending on factors like skin type, lifestyle, and skincare products. Touch-ups are recommended every 12–18 months for the best results.

What are the benefits?

Enhances natural lip colour

Defines the lip shape

Gives the illusion of fuller lips

Evens out pigmentation or asymmetry

Reduces the need for daily lipstick/lip stain

Does it hurt?

Most clients report very mild discomfort. 3/10. A topical numbing agent is applied before and during the procedure to keep you comfortable. A lot of clients report 0-1/10 also, and some fall asleep.

How long is the procedure?

The initial session usually takes 2.5 to 3 hours, including consultation, numbing, shaping, and tattooing.

What is the healing process like?

Healing takes about 7–10 days:

Day 1–3: Lips look bold and vibrant

Day 4–5: Peeling and flaking occurs (never pick or pull)

Day 8+: Colour begins to settle into a softer, natural tone

Full results are visible after about 4–6 weeks.

Is a touch-up required?

Yes. A perfecting session is recommended 6–8 weeks after the initial treatment to enhance pigment retention and address any fading or uneven spots. The treatment is not complete until after the 2nd appointment.

Who is a good candidate?

You’re a good candidate if you:

Want more defined or pigmented lips

Are over 18 and in good health

Don’t have active cold sores or skin conditions around the lips

Who should avoid lip blush tattooing?

Avoid if you:

Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Have active cold sores (you must be on antiviral meds if prone to outbreaks)

Have uncontrolled diabetes or a bleeding disorder

Are undergoing chemotherapy

How should I prepare for the appointment?

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners for 24 hours prior

Exfoliate and hydrate your lips for a 7 days before

If prone to cold sores, take antiviral medication 3 days prior and 4 days after your appointment (consult your doctor)

What should I avoid after the procedure?

No kissing, heavy sweating, swimming, or makeup on the lips for 7 days

Avoid spicy foods, hot drinks, and sun exposure during healing (always use a factor 50 spf)

Do not pick or peel the scabs

Are the results guaranteed?

Every client heals differently depending on skin type, aftercare, and lifestyle. A follow-up touch-up ensures the best results, but multiple sessions may be needed.
